Established in 1986 as an affiliate of the North Carolina Medical Society Alliance Health Education Foundation, Inc.,
the Medical Alliance Foundation is a 501(C)(3) non-profit organization, governed by a 15 member Board of Directors made up
of Alliance members and community representatives. The Medical Alliance Foundation addresses health issues in our community.
It is particularly interested in identifying and funding local programs that may be overlooked or only partially supported
by other organizations.
The goals of the foundation are:
- improve health care, health education and the quality of life for the people of Greensboro
- promote community health projects
- give grants for community health needs
- award scholarships in the field of health education
- solicit, accept, administer and disburse funds
Scholarships
- The Nell Hendrix Knight Nursing Scholarship, established in 1953, is awarded annually to students seeking a Bachelor of
Science degree in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
- The Jean Embry Frazer Scholarship, established in 1979, is awarded annually to an area high school graduate to pursue
a career in an allied health field.

Financial Structure
Fundraising activity, sponsored by the GGSMA, provides the bulk of capital support for the Medical Alliance Foundation.
The Foundation currently administers two funds. The general fund administers all income and makes all allocations and disbursements
for scholarships, community health projects and grants. The Health Education Foundation Endowment Fund, established
in 1993, is administered through the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro.
